De expo "Faces of Laeken" toont ons speciale mensen en speciale plaatsen in Laken. We maakten beelden van enkele inwoners van Laken en vroegen hen om "hun" laken aan te duiden - plaatsen waar zij een specifieke band mee hebben. Doordat de geportretteerden hun speciale plaats met ons delen, vertelt "Faces of Laeken" niet enkel een verhaal over haar inwoners maar geeft diezelfde inwoners ook de kans een verhaal met de kijker te delen. Een verhaal van persoonlijke momenten dat ze hadden in Laken en dat ze met anderen willen delen. Snel bleek dat velen onder hen het kerkhof als hun "verborgen parel" kozen. Veel van de foto's hebben dan ook een link met het kerkhof. Dit onderstreept het belang vandaag de dag van het kerkhof, en dat het niet alleen een mooie referentie naar het verleden is. Het kerkhof is dan ook de beste plaats om de foto's op te hangen.
Het project "Faces of Laeken" werd door de Stad Brussel en het Brussels Gewest gesteund en gefinancierd in het kader van het duurzame wijkcontact Bockstael.

L’exposition "Faces of Laeken" se compose de photos montrant des personnes particulières et des lieux particuliers à Laeken. Nous avons pris des photos de certains habitants de Laeken et leur avons demandé de nous montrer « leur » Laeken - des endroits qui les attirent le plus. En partageant des lieux importants pour eux, « Faces of Laeken », raconte non seulement une histoire sur les habitants de Laeken, mais aussi permet aux habitants eux-mêmes de raconter une histoire. Une histoire de moments intimes vécus à Laeken qu'ils désirent partager avec tous ceux qui verront les images. Rapidement, beaucoup de personnes photographiées ont choisi le cimetière de Laeken comme leur « trésor caché ». Ce choix inattendu souligne l'importance du cimetière tant pour le présent, que comme une belle commémoration du passé. Ainsi, le mur du cimetière est devenu le meilleur endroit pour exposer les photos.
Le projet "Faces of Laeken" est soutenu et financé par la Ville de Bruxelles et la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale grâce au Contract de quartier durable Bockstael.

The exposition "Faces of Laeken" consists of photos showing special people and special places in Laeken. We took pictures of some inhabitants of Laeken and asked them to show us "their" Laeken - places that that they treasure the most. By sharing the places of special significance to those portrayed, "Faces of Laeken" not only tells a story about inhabitants of Laeken but also allows them to tell a story. A story of intimate moments experienced in Laeken that they feel they want to share with all those will see the pictures. As it turned out, many of the portrayed persons chose the cemetery of Laeken as their “hidden treasure”. That unexpected choice cemetery underlines the importance of the cemetery as a place of immense importance for the present, not only as a beautiful commemoration of the past. So the wall of the cemetery has become the best place to expose the photos.
